How the United States Will Handle Your Complaint

The U.S. Government appreciates hearing about your complaint. Because the Internet marketplace is a borderless one, sharing your complaint with government agencies in different countries has never been more important to help us in our efforts to keep the Internet safe.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission acts in the public interest to stop business practices that violate the laws it enforces. Complaints from consumers are very important to the work of the Commission. They are often the first indication of a problem in the marketplace and may provide the initial evidence to begin an investigation.

The Commission is not authorized by Congress to resolve individual complaints. Therefore, submitting your complaint to this system WILL NOT trigger an obligation for us to investigate your complaint on your behalf. The Commission can, however, act when it sees a pattern of possible violations developing.

The information you have provided will be recorded in our complaint retention system. This computerized system enables us to identify questionable business practices that are generating numerous complaints and may be in violation of the law. Your complaint will be accessible to the Federal Trade Commission and members of Consumer Sentinel. They will use the information you provide to spot new trends, uncover new scams, and target suspect companies and individuals for law enforcement actions. Thank you for providing information that may be used to develop or support Commission enforcement initiatives.
