Tasks concerning the protection of consumer
interests are carried out by the Chairman of the Office for Competition
and Consumer Protection (OCCP).
This is the head of the
main administrative body appointed for five years by the Prime Minister
and it is to him that Chairman of the OCCP is the answerable.
The OCCP is made up of
the capital head office with nine branch offices sited in larger towns
throughout Poland – they deal with local issues while the Warsaw office
handles issues of a nationwide nature.
The main areas of
consumer protection covered by the OCCP are:

outlining all government consumer
policymaking,

updating current consumer protection
legislation,
-
the advising of business concerns in the
matter of consumer protection with its effect upon them,

a market watch on product safety and their
accordance with minimum accepted standards imposed by law,
-
cooperation at national, regional and local
levels with international bodies in the same field,
-
involvement with the initiation of market
research, surveys etc., and the fundng
of such matters,
-
proof reading all conected forthcoming
printed material for accurancy and content,
-
overall monitoring of the Trade Ispectorate,
-
the maintenance of multi-lateral ties with
foreign bodies, associations etc., dedicated to the protection of
consumers,
-
the OCCP believs itself to be at disposal of
and for the good of the public concerning itself with matters of a
collective nature, such as unfair competition in the marketplace,
